This is a great easy recipeĀ to make Valentines Day healthier and more plant based for kids. The heart shaped bread, and marinara dipping sauce make the meal more fun for kids so they won't miss the candy. And we can sneak some spinach inside the grilled cheese so they eat their veggies tooš.
Ingredients:
sourdough bread-always a good vegan bread option.
non soy vegan shredded cheese, I like the So Delicious brandĀ becauseĀ it is coconut based. Good idea to not feed kids too much processed soy.
Spinach
1 TBS avocado oil
1 jar of your favorite marinara sauce. I love Raos.
Heart shaped cookie cutter or get artistic with your knife.
Directions:
First cut your sourdough bread into heart shapes. Two hearts per sandwich ā¤ļø. Get your kids involved in this part since it can be really funĀ š.
Trim your spinach leafs so no stems will be sticking out of the sandwiches.
Put one layer of grated vegan cheese on your heart. Then top like about 6-10 leafs of spinach-I know this seems thick but they will shrink. Then top with more grated cheese and another heart bread on top. Press down hard to keep raw heart sandwich assembled.
Heart your skillet with 1 tablespoon of oil. Begin cooking your hearts. Be very careful when flipping them to keep assembled.Ā
I noticed after cooking mine, I lost some of my heart shape. So I re put my cooked sandwiches through the heart cookie cutter, and used a knife to make the shape more defined.Ā
Serve with marinara sauce and heart cut strawberries. If you cut a U on top of your strawberryĀ after removing the green leafy part-it will naturally make a heart shape.Ā ā¤ļøš
